Kickstarter Chat Assistant Shorty

Weekly Impact Story

We had a participant referred to Kickstarter (our rental assistance programs) who was at serious risk of eviction after managing a private rental for several years without issue. She had been living independently and maintaining her rent, but a sudden and significant rent increase made it impossible to keep up. Despite receiving Centrelink payments and working casually, her income was inconsistent. When she was referred to us, she had already fallen into arrears and been issued a notice to vacate. Without urgent support, she was facing homelessness and would have struggled to re-enter the rental market in the current housing crisis. Kickstarter provided rental assistance to help stabilise her situation and give her the breathing room needed to maintain her tenancy and avoid eviction.

A few months later, she checked in and shared that she was still in her home and doing better. When asked to describe something meaningful in her home, she said:

“Kickstarter has impacted my life in so many ways. It saved me when I thought I was going to be homeless but thanks to the team supporting me and giving me a chance to get back on my feet. It hasn't been easier but Kickstarter gave me the confidence to bounce back. Thank you so much.”
